On July 4th we left the NASCAR race at Road America and headed to Slinger for our Modified race. We got there just in time to qualify. Bill had no practice that night but got into the car and turned fast time. In the feature he followed Justin Okruhlica to the finish line and took second.
On Saturday July 10th we went to the Dells Raceway Park with the Modified and had 5th in time. He was lucky enough to win the dash, passing Denny Schott at the start/finish line.
He started the feature in the 4th row outside. He made it up to second and then got passed by Steve Schultz. Bill fought back and then was passed by Dave Edwards which put him back to third. That is where he finished.
The last race we were in was on July 17th at Sycamore in Illinois with our Mid American car. This is a dirt track and it's been a couple of years since he has raced on dirt.
They don't have practice sessions like they do on asphalt. All of the drivers got about 3 laps to shake down their cars and then they qualified right away. Bill got 2nd in time.
He also finished 2nd in the heat to Ron Vandermeir.
Feature time. Bill started in the 3rd row outside. He took the lead of the yellow flag infested race. At this time I couldn't tell you how many yellows there were but there were many. He stayed in the lead without much challenge and went on to win the race. It was an exciting night. We had many people come up to us and said they remembered him from Hales or Santa Fe or other dirt tracks. It was a great experience and we really enjoyed it.
Next race.... Saturday at The Dells with the Modified. Be There.

We have just been informed that Blackhawk Farms has been cancelled for the Mid Am Show. That has freed up some of our weekend plans. After the NASCAR race on Sunday we will try to beat the rush of traffic out of the track and head to Slinger for a Modified race. See you all there.

We made it to the Milwaukee Mile early on Saturday morning. Just got signed in when the clouds opened up and it rained pretty hard for about an hour. The rest of the morning was pretty good and we did get time on the track for practice. He didn't turn any real fast laps and only went out for 2 sessions. After that we went and watched the street drags which is always interesting.
Sunday morning was a little on the dreary side and there was a 70% chance of rain in the afternoon. We got a practice session and qualifying in before the truck race and the 100 lap ARCA Midwest Tour race. Of course it started to rain during the ARCA race but they did manage to finish the shortened race. The Mid Am series was next on the schedule but the rest of the day was cancelled. They are talking about rescheduling but nothing is definite yet.
Our next scheduled race will be Blackhawk Farms on July 3rd. This is a road course that the Mid Am cars will be going to. Bill is getting the car ready for that and when that one is ready he has to get the Modified ready for a 4th of July race at Slinger. We are not sure if that will happen. We are going to be at Road America for the NASCAR race on the 4th. If we get out of the track early enough we will go to Slinger. He will have the car ready to go, all we have to do is get there in time.
Busy weekend for us but I hope we can pull it all off. See you all somewhere at the races.

We were at the Dells on June 5th with the Modified. Bill did not have a great qualifying lap although it gave him a great starting position in the dash. As they were warming up their tires before the race, one driver lost control of his car and turned Bill around. Bill hit the backstretch wall and wrecked the right front tire and wheel. He did replace it but came out of the pits at least one or two laps down. They gave him 8th in the race and that started him second row inside for the feature. I don't remember all the details of the race but he ended up 6th at the checkers.
On June 12th we took the Mid Am car to Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We haven't been there for a few years and it was great to be back. They have a great facility there and the people are great.
Bill qualified 6th out of 18 cars and finished 3rd in his heat race. He started 2nd row inside in the feature and fell into 3rd after a couple of laps. The 4th place car came up to do battle with him on the inside and they were side by side for a few laps. As they were battling for the position the 4th place car came up on Bill and sent him spinning. We were waiting for him to tap out so Bill could have his spot back but that never happened. They sent both of them to the rear. With about 12 laps to go, Bill started to feel a vibration and decided to come into the pits. It was a disappointing night to say the least.
This weekend, June 19th and 20th, we are headed to The Milwaukee Mile for a Mid Am show. Bill has been working on the car to make sure that it is safe for the mile track. This is always a great race and something we really look forward to. The only problem is that the Modifieds race at the Dells on Saturday night. Bill found a problem with the Modified and right now we are not sure it will be done for Saturday night. I'd like to say "I'll keep you posted" but you all know how well I do that. We will definitely be at The Mile.
See you all on Fathers Day.
A revised update. Just heard that Madison has cancelled the show. Will keep you posted on a new date for the event.

We've been to the Dells twice since I have made updates.
On Saturday May 8th, we went to the Dells for the opener for the Modifieds. They have a new line up system this year. You are lined up for your heat with qualifying times as usual. Fast time is in the rear. How you finish in the dash is how you are lined up in the feature. If you win the dash you are on the pole of the feature, 2nd in dash front row outside and so on down to 10th. The rest of the field lines up behind 5th row outside. It has proven interesting although I'm not so sure the winner of the dash should start up front. We will see how it works out this year.
Bill qualified 2nd and that started him in the last row of the dash. He made it up to 4th. With the 4th place finish in the dash, it gave him a second row outside starting position in the feature. It was an uneventful race and he crossed the checkered in 3rd.
On May 22nd we headed to the Dells after the graduation ceremonies for our oldest granddaughter Libby. Who graduated Magna Cum Laude and in 2 honor societies.
We got there just in time for the final practice session for the Modifieds. He was all prepared and all we had to do was set tire pressures. He was happy with his practice session. He turned 3rd in time and started the dash in the second last row. He could only manage to finish 6th in the dash. With that finish he started 3rd row outside in the feature. He seemed to pick the wrong lanes and could not manage to move up in the field. He finished 5th in a green to checkered race.
Next on our schedule with be Madison on May 28th. It has been a long time since we have been there and we are looking forward to it. Hopefully you all can make it there.

We made the trip to Grundy County Speedway last Saturday with our Mid Am car. Although it was a warm day it was really windy and driving that big motor home of ours was a real treat for Bill.
Bill did not qualify well and had to start the feature in the second from last row. He didn't move up quickly but through all the cautions and lane choices he did make it up to 6th. The last caution for us was on lap 31 of 44. He radioed to me and said he had had enough fun for one day and pulled into the pits. It got a little rough out there and there was no reason to stay on the track with all that going on. Driving it into the trailer is better than shoveling it in.
The opener for the Dells is on Saturday May 8th for us with the Modified. Hope to see you all there.

Sunday night at Slinger was the start of Bill's 49th season of racing. Seems like yesterday he started out with his old Chevelle.
His first lap of qualifying was a 12.42 and I know he was practicing faster than that. As he went into turn 1 for his second lap he slid and didn't correct it fast enough and ended up turning a 12.8 As he came off the track he was disappointed and figured he blew that one. As it turned out he had fast time. He was pretty surprised.
The heat race wasn't so pretty. He just couldn't pass any cars and ended up 5th.
Feature race was a little better. He passed a couple of cars early in the race and was running second. He was about 8 to 10 car lengths behind the leader and kept picking off the distance. With about 5 laps to go he was just a car length behind the leader. Bill brushed the back stretch wall and hurt his alignment. He wasn't able to keep up with Tyler Schley and Tyler ended up winning the feature.
Next weekend we will be going to Grundy County Speedway with the Mid American car. We haven't been to that track in a number of years. We are both anxious to run with the Mid Am series again. Last year we only ran one race with them due to schedule conflicts. Hope you all can make the trip and we will see you at the races.

Welcome back to billprietzel.com
I'm sure by now you have all noticed that our web site has been off line. This was caused by a lack of communication between myself and GoDaddy and has now been rectified, although I had to rebuild our web site from scratch. I'm not very good at this so it may take me a while to figure it out.
We have been very busy this winter with going to the Snowball Derby in December with our Modified and an auction in Iowa in February. Recently Bill has been rebuilding Bill Tandetzke's Modified after the crash at the Dells on the last day of the season. With the help of Bill Tandetzke, Gary Budzien and Jeff and Tom Jasinski it is going back together very well and should be ready for the season to open.
We have about 17 race dates lined up for the Modified and 10 for the Mid Am Series. At this point we will try to make most of them. Our opening date April 25th at Slinger with the Modified. Mid Am is scheduled for April 17th at Rockford but we will be missing that to honor our Grandson, Carson, at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. We are very proud of his accomplishments and we hope he continues to work hard at all of his endeavors.
